Dr. Pei is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Toronto and a Staff Nephrologist at the Toronto General Hospital, University Health Network, where he currently directs the Hereditary Kidney Disease (HKD) Clinic.

Certified in both internal medicine and nephrology, he is also a Senior Scientist at the Division of Genomic Medicine of the Toronto General Hospital Research Institute. His research focuses on the use of molecular genetics/genomics to elucidate the factors that initiate or modify the progression of genetic kidney diseases. His current research targets autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD), IgA nephropathy, and idiopathic nephrotic syndrome with the overarching goal to improve diagnosis, prognostication, and treatment.

Dr. Pei has received numerous grants and awards. A sought-after speaker on ADPKD, he is widely published and serves as a reviewer for peer-reviewed journals including the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Nature Medicine, Journal of Clinical Investigation, and Human Molecular Genetics.
