Hi everyone, I hope someone can provide some insight here...

I'm a 45 year old male (non-black), i've been tracking my creatinine values the last few years as they were quite high, i;ve seen a broad range from 84 recently to a high of 132. A range of 47 ml/min seems pretty crazy, can we really have that much fluctuation in GFR? Could dehydration cause such a gap? Could differences be attributed to different labs? Optimistically i am hoping the lower creatinine is valid since if my kidney was actually damaged it would not regain functionality.

There was a extended period this summer values were not great (128,132) could this be due to something particular like a kidney infection or some temporary situation?

Recent urine tests revealed no protein. I don't have diabetes or HBP.

Anyhow some opinion on what is happening here would be great, if there cause for concern and what to do moving forwards.

thanks!

* GFR calculated using ckd-epi equation (review on web says it is more accurate)

Hello -

1. What sort of urine test was this? A ‘dipstick’? Or a 24-hr urine collection/creatinine clearance?

2. Do you always measure your Creatinine in the same lab? Do you always measure it whilst fasted with some water before the test?

3. Do you follow a high protein diet or have a lot of muscle mass?

Thanks

Hi,

1. it was not a urine test, these were blood tests.
2. These were not all measured in the same lab, most were in the same one but the last one of 84 was in a different lab. Most were fasted, but the last 3 were not (interesting the creatinine was relatively lower then). I try to be hydrated before but it has not always been the case. Could fasting affect creatinine values?
3. I'm not on any special diet nor have alot of muscle mass.

I'm mainly trying to see if there is cause for concern here, ie is my GFR actually in the 60's or like the latest values show, relatively normal? I know with higher GFR there is a problem with accuracy and the idea is to look at the overall pattern over time but given my values i'm not seeing any really.

thank you!
