Hi,
I’m a 40 year old lady who only has one remaining kidney (which is scarred and slightly damaged) I had a nephrectomy in 2001 to remove my left one as it wasn’t functioning at all and causing me to become ill.
However, since that’s been removed my egfr reading was 70 with 102 creatinine.
This has recently fallen to 59 with the same 102 creatinine. There wasn’t much protein in my urine.
My medical background was I was 10 weeks premature and my kidneys never developed properly.
Is this going to deteriorate and do I need to be referred back to my specialist?

Any help you can give me would be great.

Kind regards,
Samantha
Hello,

eGFR is calculated directly from the creatinine. Therefore the same creatinine must reveal the same results for the eGFR. It is possible that the calculation was done incorrectly. Another possibility is related to your ethnic background. If you are black, you must multiply the answer by 20% to accommodate for the difference in the way creatinine is produced in black people versus non-black people in that case, you would multiply 1.2 times 59 Which would bring you closer to 70.
