I recently got some lab results of Creatinine 1.7 and my EGFR was 42. Is there anything I can do to avoid this downward turn? I have HTN but it is well controlled. Is the damage done?
Hello,

Do you happen to know what your eGFR was over the past few years? This would help understand the rate of progression. Do you have protein in your urine, if so, how much? Do you have any other health problems apart from hypertension?

My creatinine was 1.2 in 2016. I have no proteinuria. I am obese about BMI 32. I was taking ibuprofen nearly every day for almost 3 years. This is what I believe caused the change in renal function. I am in ICU/ER nurse so I get the labs and all. I just need more knowledge than my own.

Hi there,

Reassuring that the eGFR change has been modest. It's also very important that you have no proteinuria. I agree, 3 years of daily NSAIDs could have played a major role. Now that you have stopped, while yes, the damage has been done, the rate of progression can be fairly slow if at all. All of this is predicated on the assumption that you have no other underlying disease contributing to loss of kidney function in addition to the above.
