GFR Number 59 as a 54 year old woman. I have no history of diabetes or High blood pressure. I exercise 5-6 days a week. I have not felt bad at all had no idea until my physical. My GP says not to worry that it will stabilize she promise me it will be ok. but i’m terrified

  • Do you have any other health conditions?
  • Do you take medication including supplements?
  • What is your blood pressure?
  • What is your ethnic background?
  • Do you have family history of kidney disease?

This will help answer some of your questions.

My blood pressure is 109/66
I do not take any medication. As far as supplements I have taken pre workout such as amino energy before my runs or spin class workouts
My ethnic background is white
I am adopted
I would not be concerned about a single GFR reading as they are sensitive to a single blood test - your creatinine - which can often be impacted by dehydration for example. I would repeat the test if it has not already been confirmed and when doing so I would not be fasting. Do you happen to know if you had any protein or blood in your urinalysis?

My GP did not take a urine sample she did not seem to worried. I had just finished a run 30 min before I had my appointment and bloodwork. Thank you for your response I have been so anxious over this.
Understood. I would definitely not test your kidney function immediately after a 30 minute run. Please retest on a different day and try to ensure you are well hydrated.
