Liver cysts are an infrequent cause of liver failure, even in cases of a severely enlarged liver with cysts. It has been reported however. Renal cysts could theoretically be transform to renal tumors and so in my practice, patients with complexity in the cyst (calcification, septation or vascular components) undergo follow-up.
