Hello,
In our transplant program (St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto), we do screen potential donors having recurrent hematuria with cystoscopy and renal biopsy. From a renal perspective, if patients do not have glomerulonephritis, they can proceed with donation. A common diagnosis is thin basement membrane disease which is generally not a contraindication to donate in our program. In some cases, if patients have thin basement membrane disease, we might proceed more cautiously if the patient is under 30.
