I have some pateints coming to see me with ASA and plavix on their medication. I understand both are useful post stent but should be d/c after a year or so?What is your view on the use of plavix and ASA used together in general? I am not sure if this is an oversite on the physician part or ? as ASA is OTC.Thank youJL

Hi there,

This is perhaps a question more suited to a cardiologist but there are definitely high-risk cardiac patients in whom both ASA and clopidogrel might be used.

hi , current evidence suggests that combination of aspirin & clopidogrel in general population is associated with reduction of risk with cardiac event as compared to aspirin alone in patients with NSTEMI . For diabetic kidney disease patients , post hoc analysis of CHARISMA trial showed that combination as compared to aspirin alone is associated with 60 % increase in overall mortality . In another trial CREDO , post hoc analysis showed slight increase in minor or major bleeding in CKD patients .
