Nephrology healthcare professionals including nurses working in haemodialysis units to some degree remain reticent or have no access to "bedside" ultrasound (generally grey-scale devices). Hence, complications to patient's AVFs and AVGs through sub-optimal cannulation techniques such as extravigation, aneurysms and pseudoaneurysms sadly are not uncommon. The Australasia Renal Society sub group NEN have E-learning modules for vascular access and the use of ultrasound.
