I have stage 3-4 CKD and I have very SEVERE arthritis. I have had both hips, knees and 1 shoulder replaced. Now I have severe arthritis in my elbows and hands. Can I use topical NSAID cremes or marijuana cremes?

Hello,

The concern you are likely alluding to is the use of NSAIDs in patients with kidney disease. It is true, these medications are harmful to the kidneys if used chronically or even in the short term in patients who become dehydrated in addition to taking these medications. However, topical NSAIDs likely do not get sufficiently absorbed to cause kidney injury, particularly if used for brief periods (2-4 weeks). I have no experience with or knowledge of marijuana creams.
