I just had back surgery and for some reason I couldn't pee afterwards. The nurses would leave me on the toilet, alone, in pain. By 9 PM my bladder was ready to burst. I was sobbing and begging for help. They brought in a bladder scanner and I was told there was 1300 ml of urine. My surgeon ordered a Valium and muscle relaxer and told to walk around the nurse station. By 11PM I was in dire pain, never mind my back surgery. The nurse said she is still waiting for the Dr to call to do a catheter. Finally at 4 AM A "specialist"was called in. It took her and 2 other people, plus spectators to find my urethra. She kept poking me, and I had to tell her where my urethra is, my anatomy is different. Finally, she got it in and I was told to push on my abdomen. The next day I see pieces of tissue and blood in my urine bag (I was home now). I called advise nurse and was told to go to the ER, where they just testing for an infection. No infection, ready for release, I asked the nurse to please check the catheter !!! She found the balloon wasn't inflated, and she put 10 ml of saline. There must have been 2000of urine by 4 AM, is there danger of bladder damage ? Thankyou, Maureen
